Typical use cases

DevOps automation (CI/CD)

Build, test, and deploy your code automatically without setting up your own pipeline infrastructure. With the included GitLab Runners and CI/CD pipelines, your builds run directly in your managed instance—and starting with the Advanced tier, you can even use a custom runner flavor. This helps you shorten your release cycles and maintain consistently high quality.

Cloud-native development with Kubernetes

Develop and run containerized applications from the very first line of code through to deployment. GitLab integrates closely with Kubernetes, and when combined with our Managed Kubernetes, you get a seamless, end-to-end environment from a single provider, hosted entirely in Germany. This makes deployments traceable, repeatable, and easily scalable.

Security analyses & compliance management

Embed security firmly into your development process instead of adding it as an afterthought. As a DevSecOps platform, GitLab helps you identify vulnerabilities early and document approvals in a traceable manner. The fact that your instance runs in Germany in compliance with the GDPR and is ISO 27001-certified also helps you with audits and compliance verification.

Agile project planning & roadmap tracking

Plan tasks, track progress, and keep an eye on your roadmap—all in the same place as your code. With boards, issues, and milestones, development, product, and related teams can work from a common foundation. This reduces friction and makes a project’s status transparent to everyone.

Management of large source code repositories with distributed teams

Keep even large codebases and numerous concurrent contributions neatly organized. With ample storage, GitLab Registry, and a centralized instance, distributed teams can collaborate reliably, no matter where they are. We handle backups and operations in the background.

FAQ

For which target group is GitLab suitable?

Essentially, it’s for anyone who writes code—from software teams to startups to larger development departments. GitLab is also well-suited for projects outside of software development where teams collaborate, such as in administration or marketing. Wherever repositories, tasks, and workflows need to be consolidated in one place, GitLab is a good choice.

What is the difference between CE and EE?

CE stands for Community Edition, and EE stands for Enterprise Edition. We offer both in Basic, Advanced, and Premium tiers. The EE versions include additional enterprise features and require a valid GitLab EE license. CE provides the basic tools, while EE also covers management, maintainability, security, and the complexities of scaling collaboration solutions. Which edition is right for you depends on the features you need. We’d be happy to advise you.

3

What does GitLab include, and how do backups work?

This includes all repositories you’ve created as well as the configuration of your GitLab instance. Your data is stored in our own Ceph storage, and we create backups there every night as RBD snapshots. This happens without any downtime and without any action on your part. Backups are retained for one day. You can import a backup at any time by submitting a written request. The time it takes depends on the scope of the request: Depending on the urgency, we’ll process the request either the same day or within the course of the week.

3

Can I use Runner and CI/CD pipelines?

Yes. Every plan includes at least one GitLab Runner, and starting with the Advanced plan, you can also choose a custom runner flavor. GitLab Registry and CI/CD pipelines are included in all plans, so you can automate your builds and deployments right away.

3

How do updates work?

We perform regular updates for you. We first review and test new versions that conflict with our feature set and implement them accordingly; this also applies to new features we introduce. Before each update, you’ll receive an email with the necessary information. In exceptional cases, such as urgent security updates, this notification may be sent just a few hours in advance.

Where can I find my login details?

You can find your username and URL in the "Access" tab. You'll set your GitLab password for the root user yourself when you log in for the first time.

3

Can I migrate my existing GitLab instance to you?

Yes, you can switch to us. Our team will be happy to help you with the migration and is here to support you with our expertise.
