Administration
You manage your resources in the way that best suits your team: via the MyNWS dashboard for visual management, or entirely programmatically via the native OpenStack API. Infrastructure as Code works out-of-the-box with Terraform, Ansible, and Pulumi—no proprietary CLI, no vendor-specific abstractions. What you configure here today can be ported to any other OpenStack provider tomorrow.

GPUs
Our GPU instances are designed for teams that need high-performance computing and require their data to remain in Germany. Whether it’s ML training, inference, or scientific simulations, you can choose between the NVIDIA A10 (24 GB VRAM), NVIDIA A40 (48 GB VRAM), and the RTX 6000 Blackwell Server Edition (96 GB VRAM). PCI passthrough enables direct hardware access for maximum performance. All GPU instances run in compliance with the GDPR in Nuremberg, without routing through U.S. infrastructure.

Backup and snapshots
Protect your infrastructure on multiple levels: VM snapshots for fast point-in-time recovery, automated volume backups for daily protection, and air-gapped backups for complete disaster recovery. The dedicated
air-gapped backup is physically isolated. No network access means maximum protection against ransomware and accidental deletion. All backups are stored in Nuremberg, not with an external cloud service.

Why OpenStack?
OpenStack is the world’s most widely used open-source cloud platform—deployed by CERN, Deutsche Telekom, BMW, and hundreds of other companies that have deliberately avoided proprietary hyperscalers. Unlike AWS, Azure, or GCP, OpenStack has no single vendor that can raise license fees, discontinue roadmaps, or change access policies.
Specifically, this means for you:
- Your infrastructure can be managed via the standardized OpenStack API —using Terraform, Ansible, the OpenStack CLI, or the Python SDK.
- What you build today will also run tomorrow in another OpenStack data center, with another provider, or on-premises. No vendor lock-in due to proprietary abstractions.
NWS has been running OpenStack for over a decade and is a member of the OpenInfra Foundation.
VMware alternative: OpenStack
Since the Broadcom acquisition, many companies have reported increases in VMware licensing costs ranging from 300% to 1,000%. Those who need to reevaluate their infrastructure anyway are making the switch to OpenStack now.
NWS Cloud Services is the direct operating environment for this transition:
- OpenStack Compute (Nova) replaces vSphere/ESXi
- Ceph block storage (Cinder) replaces vSAN
- OVN-SDN Replaces VMware NSX
- with full API compatibility for Terraform and Ansible
Existing VM images can be migrated using `virt-v2v`. Our NWS MyEngineer® guides you through the process.
The decisive difference to switching to AWS or Azure: No new proprietary dependencies. No new lock-in. Open standards from start to finish.
Why cloud hosting with NWS?
Digital sovereignty
You will receive an order processing contract (AVV) for the operation in accordance with Art. 28 GDPR.
Compare us
Small but mighty! NWS is the only provider in this comparison to offer KCSP-certified managed Kubernetes, air-gapped backups, and full 24/7 support—including a dedicated contact person—all on a fully German, ISO 27001-certified infrastructure.
We openly compare ourselves to StackIT, Open Telekom Cloud, Hetzner, and AWS—across eight categories, from compute to AI.
